FAQs
Every donations, big or small, helps us to provide nourishing food to the hungry.
Food is rescued and donated and if we have a shortfall, purchased at a discount. Many organisations such as Lions Clubs, schools and corporations hold food drives.
While our free community meals are open to all in need, clients receiving meals or hampers of fresh fruit and vegetables and pantry staples are referred to One Meal by 120 different agencies and community organisations including women’s shelters, schools, hospitals, supported housing providers and charities such as Mission Australia and St Vincent’s de Paul.
Our clients may be ill, leaving domestic violence, school students, young people, people with a disability, homeless, refugees as well as individuals and families struggling with the rising cost of living. So many people have to make choices - rent? electricity? medication? food?
We have volunteers that cook at home or in the warehouse and we partner with RecipeTin Eats who provide 3,000 meals a week and drivers who deliver as well as pick up rescued food and donations. Many businesses also donate food.
We avoid landfill with a composting program in partnership with Fisher Rd Special School, where food waste is turned into nutrient rich compost, used to grow food.
One Meal collaborates with 120 social service organisations and community groups to ensure we target people who need food relief.
